Earaches in Children
Earaches are a frequent issue for many children, and can cause significant pain and discomfort. Ear infections are commonly treated with antibiotics, but these are often ineffective when the infection is viral. This cycle can frustrate parents, leading them to seek alternative treatments. Chiropractic care offers a holistic approach to managing ear infections, particularly in young children.
Children’s Eustachian tubes are shorter and more horizontal compared to adults, which can lead to difficulties with proper drainage. When drainage is compromised, fluid builds up, increasing the risk of infection. Chiropractic adjustments help to improve the flow of fluid in the ear by addressing spinal misalignments that may be affecting nerve function in the upper neck. By improving fluid drainage and reducing nerve interference, chiropractic care can enhance the child’s natural ability to fight infections and provide relief from earaches.
Infantile Colic
Infantile colic is a distressing condition where a baby cries for extended periods of time, often with no obvious cause. The exact reason for colic is not fully understood, but some theories suggest gastrointestinal issues or an immature nervous system may be to blame. Babies diagnosed with colic cry for at least 3 hours a day, more than 3 days a week, for a minimum of 3 weeks. Although it’s often expected to resolve by 3 months of age, colic can persist much longer, leading to significant stress for both the baby and the parents.
Dr. Ann frequently finds that infants suffering from colic have misalignments (subluxations) in their upper neck. These misalignments can irritate the nervous system, affecting the digestive system and causing discomfort. Gentle chiropractic adjustments help to realign the spine, relieving tension and improving the baby’s digestive function. Many parents report a dramatic reduction in crying and irregular bowel movements after chiropractic care, resulting in better sleep for both the baby and the entire family.
